There aren’t many British royals in marriage age anymore, so any royal wedding is a big event. Not just because people are wondering what everyone will be wearing and who will show up, but because the dynamics between the royal family are always very interesting to the general public. And the wedding of Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, doesn’t seem like it will disappoint.
For now, the big news out of the wedding is that Prince Harry will not be attending, as he was not invited. But what was the reason for the snub? According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, it was all about William.

“There was never going to be a scenario where William and Harry spent the day together,” one royal insider said. “That ship has sailed.” So, the decision was simple.
“Nobody sat around debating this,” an insider said. “William was always going to win.”
This is especially true considering Harry doesn’t even live in the UK and hasn’t remained close with his cousin Peter. “One brother is the future of the institution,” a palace source said. “The other walked away from it.”
A lot reportedly went into ensuring William would attend. “The calculation was straightforward,” a source explained. “Keep William happy and the event goes ahead without a problem.”
There have been plenty of reports about a possible reconciliation between the brothers, but William just doesn’t seem to be willing to try. “People still talk about reconciliation,” an insider said. “William isn’t interested in sharing a room, a table, or a photo opportunity with Harry.”
And that means that sometimes, choices will have to be made. And for most, well… “There is no choice,” a source said. “William is the heir. William is the priority. Every single time.”
In a May 2026 interview with Sky News, TalkTV host Mark Dolan explained Harry and Meghan would not be invited. “It’s a royal snub; it’s the royal wedding of the year, and it is Princess Anne’s son, Peter … and the bottom line is that Harry has not been invited,” Dolan said, adding that Harry is actually “banned” from the event.
A friend of Peter and his fiancée, Harriet Sperling, trying to take some heat from the matter, telling Hello! magazine, “Peter and Harry haven’t spoken for several years and have simply lost touch, so he hasn’t been invited.”
But when you’re royalty, it’s not like you have to worry about keeping the guest list small.
Royal commentator Emily Nash told Page Six, “What we were told was that Peter hadn’t spoken to Harry for the last few years. And so it sort of has been a natural cooling off and he wasn’t invited as a result.”
“[Peter is] very loyal; he’s very protective. He’s been a very good sounding board to his cousin over the years,” Nash said. “So it absolutely makes sense that I think had both Wales brothers been there, it would have put a completely different slant on the whole event.”
“And that’s not what you want on what should be the happiest day of your life, right?” she added.
