Two iconic Nashville figures.

Both dead.

It is said that the ghosts of David “Skull” Schulman and Ike Johnson haunt the Southern Turf building, the anchor of Printers Alley.

If you’re a true crime fan, a ghost hunter or a listener of the “Murder on Music Row” podcast, this might be the perfect contest for you.

Bill Miller, the owner of the Southern Turf Building, which houses Skull’s Rainbow Room, Sinatra Bar & Lounge, the Southern Turf Lofts and the exclusive members-only Southern Turf Club, has announced a giveaway for dinner for two at Skull’s and a night in the Ike Johnson haunted suite upstairs, redeemable for the night of Oct. 6.

The winner also will receive an invitation to a private preview party for Season 2, happening at the Southern Turf Club on Oct 6 from 5-7 p.m. The podcast launches Oct. 7.

The dinner and night in the Southern Turf building is a $1,000 value, said a spokesperson with Miller’s organization.

Season 2 of the award-winning “Murder on Music Row” podcast focuses on the David “Skull” Schulman murder case.

Schulman was attacked inside Skull’s Rainbow Room, a club he had owned and operated for 50 years, on Jan. 21, 1998. He died the next morning at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center after country star Tanya Tucker sang at his bedside.

Skull’s list of friends was legendary − Elvis, Willie Nelson, Dottie West, Tim McGraw − just to name a few. Paul McCartney once wrote a song sitting in Skull’s Rainbow Room.

Someone slit Skull’s throat and bashed him over the head.

Ike Johnson was a bartender at the opulent Southern Turf Club in the early 1900s.

The club was known for its ornate decorations, ceiling fans and sports gambling. Johnson lived upstairs until the Tennessean and Banner newspapers moved into the building.

He died on Feb. 3, 1916, distraught over his pending move out of his beloved building. Perhaps he never left, some ghost hunters say. His room is still inside the Turf building.
