During a recent interview with Cam Newton for the Auburn Tigers and Carolina Panthers alum’s Funky Friday podcast, Miami spoke at length about the impact the Iceman–Habibti–Maid of Honour artist had on her and JT during the City Girls era, with their involvement on the Scorpion track “In My Feelings” getting particular attention.

Per Miami, who this month netted her highest charting solo Hot 100 entry yet with “Spend Dat,” Drake is a “supportive” and “special” force in the music industry.

“He comes from a genuine space,” she said, citing his City Girls co-sign as the “breakthrough” moment for the now-defunct duo.

Elsewhere in the conversation, as seen in a clip shared to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday (June 3), Miami said she recently made efforts to get Drake on her unreleased track “Take Me to Chanel.” At the time, however, Drake was still in the throes of the Kendrick Lamar feud.

“I was trying to get Drake. … I was trying to get him on the song,” Miami told Cam, as seen below. “Like, I remember DMing him, but that’s at the time when he was going through all his shit. And when people are going through their shit, like, I get it. I understand. It’s just like, ‘I gotta focus on me right now,’ because these people trying to take me out. I can understand that, so I didn’t take it personally.”

According to Miami, Drake’s reaction to the DM in question amounted to a mere like, though she reiterated that she understands why he wasn’t jumping at the chance to appear on her track at the time.

“I was like, Drake, I think you would sound good on ‘Take Me to Chanel,’” she recalled. “He just liked the thing. He just liked the message. I’m like, come on now, don’t do that, Drake. Don’t do that now. Because, when you called me, I was there. But nah, I f**k with Drake. I understand.”

When sharing the clip to IG, Miami reignited her campaign in pursuit of a new Drake collab.

“Iceman, pick up the phone,” she captioned the Stories update.

“Spend Dat,” Miami’s latest solo single, is currently at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. This stands as her highest-charting entry as a solo artist, and third appearance overall following “Don’t Play With It” in 2023 and “Rap Freaks” in 2021.
