Former royal butler Grant Harrold is confused by Prince Harry’s ongoing feelings about King Charles III, Prince William and more.
Harrold, 47, detailed his seven years as the butler for Charles and his family in the upcoming book The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service. The Telegraph published details from the upcoming memoir on Monday, August 18 — including Harrold’s take on Harry’s relationship with William, Charles and Queen Camilla.
“The four of them, I promise you, got on so well,” Harrold claimed. “And that’s why I don’t understand what Harry’s said, I really don’t understand.”
He continued, “I saw them having dinners together, I saw them having drinks together, I saw them going to parties together.”
Harrold recalled there being “no animosity” between Harry and his immediate family during his time as their butler.
“The king used to do things to make them laugh and giggle,” he added.

Harry and wife Meghan Markle parted ways with the royals in 2020 and relocated to California. The couple later spoke out in a tell-all CBS interview in 2021 and Harry detailed their family struggles in his 2023 book, Spare.
More recently, Harry publicly discussed his family’s rift in a bombshell BBC interview earlier this year, after losing his appeal for government-funded security in the U.K. Since Harry and Meghan moved to the United States, their security measures in the Duke of Sussex’s home country have been determined on a case-by-case basis.
“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry said at the time. “I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”

During the same interview, Harry alluded to Charles’ cancer diagnosis, which was revealed in January 2024. Harry also claimed that his father “won’t speak to me” and alluded that Charles had something to do with him losing the appeal.
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” Harry said during the May sit-down interview. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
He added, “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands. Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what is necessary.”
