No matter who Belly chooses, it’s Team Wilmington for the win; plus, your local weekend

American Craft Walk Wilmington comes to downtown this weekend.

I think it’s safe to say I’m not in the key demographic for Wilmington-shot Amazon TV drama “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” I’m a 55-year-old man and the show is most-watched by women ages 18 to 34, so I get it, it’s not “for me,” as the kids say.

Nonethless, I’ve been intrigued by the volumnious amount of social media content and media coverage in general stirred up by TSITP, whose upcoming finale Sept. 17 is one of the most anticipated of any series in recent memory. That’s when lead character Belly (Lola Tung) is expected to choose between brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) — or maybe she doesn’t choose at all, enraging a generation.

To be honest, I’ve been more entertained by TSITP memes (one jokester, frustrated by the lead character’s dithering, termed the show “The Summer I Strangled Belly”) and Instagram reels — like when the hosts of the jokily bro-ish “Playdate” podcast got hilariously catfished into a believing a TSITP storyline presented as a tale from real life — than by the show itself.

Anyway, below you’ll see the link to a story I wrote about how the show’s cultural impact is being felt very specifically in Wilmington, as well as information about stuff going on around town this weekend.

Weekend weather outlook

Should be mostly nice this weekend, with highs near 80 each day and lows in the low 60s giving us a taste of fall. Ten percent or less chance of rain each day.

It might not officially be fall, but we’ve got the first of our fall festivals in the Wilmington area this weekend, so we’re close.

We’ve also got a nice selection of concerts, from big-name touring acts at the big venues to top-notch local shows at more intimate spots. We’ve also got a couple of theatrical touring shows stopping in town.
