The grieving family of the late Duchess of Kent, including her husband the Duke of Kent, gathered at London’s Westminster Cathedral to bid their final goodbyes.
The Duchess’s three children – George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor and Lord Nicholas Taylor – along with her ten grandchildren arrived at the cathedral dressed in black to honor the remarkable life led by Katharine, or Mrs. Kent as she preferred to be called.
Lady Helen Taylor was seen supporting her father’s arm as they entered Westminster Cathedral together, followed by Lady Helen’s husband Timothy Taylor, and their children Columbus, Eloise, Cassius, and Estella.
George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, and his children Lady Amelia Windsor, Lady Marina Windsor, and Lord Edward Downpatrick walked alongside their family, followed by Lord Nicholas Taylor and his sons Leopold Windsor, Albert Windsor, and Louis Windsor.
King Charles also made an appearance at Westminster Cathedral, as did the Prince and Princess of Wales. William and Kate confirmed their attendance at the funeral earlier today, following a statement released by Kensington Palace.
Following the Duchess’s death earlier this month, William and Kate offered their condolences in a touching statement, “Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen and Nicholas.
“The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family. W and C.”
Charles and Camilla similarly honored the Duchess’s legacy after her death with a social media tribute stating, “The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”
The Duchess, originally Katharine Worsley, gained widespread recognition for awarding trophies at Wimbledon and notably consoled a tearful Jana Novotna following her defeat in the 1993 ladies’ singles final to Steffi Graf.
In 2002, she withdrew from official Royal responsibilities, relinquishing her HRH title and dedicating her time as a modest music instructor at a public school in Hull, where she was simply addressed as Mrs Kent. Her public outings have been sparse in recent years, though she did make an appearance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding in 2018.
The last time she was spotted in public was last October at a celebration for her husband’s 89th birthday, where he was treated to a bagpipe rendition of Happy Birthday outside their Kensington Palace residence, Wren House.
