For many veteran stars, the soaps they’ve spent years on aren’t always the ones they began their career with. This is the case for General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn. Before the actress landed the role of Alexis in 1996, she appeared on various other soaps — one being One Life to Live, the very soap that Erika Slezak spent over 40 years playing Victoria on. And with the daytime icon set to appear on the Port Charles soap, Grahn welcomed her with open arms and shared their connection with fans.

“My very first job on television was One Life to Live,” Grahn stated while posting a pic with Slezak on the General Hospital set. “I was finishing school and working on the show as a non-contract recurring character, Beverly Wilkes. I had grown up watching OLTL with my mom and sister, so to be working with Judith Light, Gerald Anthony and Erika Slezak was surreal and thrilling.”

After recalling her time spent uncontracted on the Llanview soap, and what led to Grahn being sued at a very young age by the show’s producer, she remembered going to Slezak for advice. “Erika, without being asked to, went directly into her bosses’ office and told him in no uncertain terms that what he was doing was unconscionable, mean and unwarranted. She got right in the middle of a lawsuit and stood up for me, because she believed what her boss was doing to me was wrong and undeserved. She spoke up for me. That’s the kind of woman Erika is.” She went on to express, “In addition to that, she’s an outstanding, consummate well awarded actress who was a mentor to me as I watched her and learned up close how to be truthful and effective in this medium.”

And now “to meet up with her again after decades,” Grahn added, “[She’s] still beautiful and elegant as always, was a true joy. It is no secret how much I respect and appreciate formidable, courageous women, and Erika is unquestionably one of them.” And yes, for those who were wondering, Grahn’s case, which can be learned about further in her post, was “settled in arbitration” and she won.
