English reggae band UB40 stopped at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A. as part of their “Relentless” tour this past Thursday.

The group, which formed in and has been playing consistently since the late 1970s, is known for its diverse line-up and longstanding popularity and influence in the reggae and dub scenes.

You may know them for their rendition of “Red Red Wine” by Neil Diamond – which went No. 1 on the Billboard when it was rereleased in 1988, five years after the band first published the cover. They also found success with a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” — which the band renamed “(I Can’t Help) Falling in Love with You.”

Of course, UB40 – the name of which derives from a British unemployment benefit form – performed those two legendary covers as well as other covers they are known for, such as “Many Rivers to Cross” as originally performed by Jimmy Cliff, “The Way You Do the Things You Do” as originally performed by The Temptations and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” as originally performed by Bob Dylan.

Fans were also treated to performances of some of the band’s top original songs too, such as “One in Ten” and “Sing Our Own Song,” among others.

UB40’s “Relentless” tour started on Aug. 17 in Atlanta and includes 33 shows – L.A. was the 30th.

After their Oct. 2 show at the Orpheum, the band played at Pechanga Theatre in Temecula and at the Open Air Theatre in San Diego on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4.

The last show of the tour is scheduled for Sunday night at Wynn Las Vegas Encore Theater.
