Anthony Boyle has opened up about his viral bath scene in the House of Guinness show. In Episode 3 of the Netflix drama, Boyle’s character, Arthur Guinness, is seen lounging in a bath, smoking a cigar, and drinking whiskey before stepping out completely naked as his older servant waits nearby with a towel.

During an interview with Men’s Health, Boyle confirmed that the full-frontal sequence was filmed without a body double or prosthetics. He said, “It’s not a prosthetic. It’s my own body.” The Say Nothing actor also shared that he suggested rewriting the scene as the nude scene wasn’t originally in the script, but was something he suggested the night before filming. “I sort of wrote that aspect into the scene,” he said.

Boyle revealed that originally the script had Arthur dressing by the mirror. “It was the night before we were filming, and he was in the script originally meant to be getting his cufflinks on by the mirror,” he said. However, he explained that it felt a little “boring.”

The actor further stated, “I called the director and said, ‘I think he should be smoking and drinking whiskey in the bath, and he should be completely naked and just get up, to show that he owns the whole fucking world.’” Boyle continued, “He wouldn’t even have to say anything to say, ‘I’m above these servants. This is my world. I am dominant, and I control everything’. That’s what I wanted to show.”

The hit Netflix drama explores the power struggles within the Guinness family in the late 19th century, following the death of patriarch Sir Benjamin Guinness.
