Prince Harry’s latest announcement clash with Prince William’s arrival in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize has been labelled “predictable” by a royal expert. The Duke of Sussex is set to embark on a trip to Canada this week, with his visit coinciding directly with his brother, the Prince of Wales’s, major visit to Brazil for the fifth anniversary of his environmental award.
The timing of the engagements has fuelled further speculation regarding the long-reported rift between the royal siblings. Royal commentator, Victoria Arbiter, posted on X about the timings, claiming it was “inevitable if not predictable.”
She then commented on how in 2022, William’s visit to Boston for the Earthshot Prize Awards clashed with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s trailer drop for the docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’.
The commentator also references the timing of the awards in Singapore in 2023, when Harry delivered a message at the Stand Up for Heroes event in New York City.
During November 2024, at the Earthshot Awards in Cape Town, Prince Harry also made a surprise appearance at the Pat Tillman Foundation’s 20th annual Tillman Honours gala in Chicago on November 6.
A social media user added: “Funny how Harry’s ‘announcements’ ALWAYS coincide with Earthshot Awards.” Another added: “Very predictable like clockwork.” A third questioned: “Why is Harry doing this?”
Prince William is currently in Brazil and will host the glittering Earthshot Prize ceremony in Rio on Wednesday, before travelling to the Cop30 climate change talks in the Amazon to represent his father.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s visit to Canada, was announced just minutes after William’s Brazilian arrival, and will see him meet with veterans, members of the armed forces community, and military charities.
This journey marks Remembrancetide, the two-week period leading up to Remembrance Sunday.
A spokesperson for the Duke insisted the Canadian visit had been “almost a year in the planning,” adding that the announcement’s timing was due to a “truncated” period for revealing his engagements for security reasons.
Harry will attend a lunch with the military charity True Patriot Love Foundation on Wednesday and then a private fundraising function with the Halo Trust in the evening, the same day as William’s Earthshot Prize awards.
