Brigitte Bardot’s final words have been unveiled by her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, following her passing aged 91 last month. The French film icon underwent two major surgeries in the final weeks before her death to treat her cancer. Ahead of her funeral, which was held today (January 7), her husband of 30 years, told Paris Match magazine she’s tolerated the operations “very well” after being rushed into hospital in November 2025. Bernard then opened up on Brigitte’s final words, adding: “They were the most moving moment of my life with Brigitte, because she was leaving us. She said ‘pew pew’. I was half asleep, I sat up and saw that she had stopped breathing.”
He added: “I saw her suffering disappear in the next fifteen minutes – she became magnificent.”
According to a statement from the Brigette Bardot Foundation, the two words were her way of saying goodbye as she’s often use the term as “a little word of love”.
A tearful Bernard added: “I saw her suffering disappear in the next fifteen minutes – she became magnificent.”
Her public funeral was held in St Tropez at the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church.
The ceremony was broadcast on large screens so her fans and mourners could watch.
French President Emmanuel Macron said she was “a legend of the century”.
He wrote on X: “Her films, her voice, her dazzling glory, her initials, her sorrows, her generous passion for animals, her face that became Marianne, Brigitte Bardot embodied a life of freedom. A French existence, universal brilliance. She touched us. We mourn a legend of the century.”
Brigitte rose to fame in the 1950s as a sex symbol after being in the film, And God Created Woman.
The star retired from acting in the early 1970s and became politically active, focusing on animal rights.
