The Kansas City Royals have signed a veteran reliever.

The 34-year-old posted a 1.98 ERA in 63.2 innings with the World Series champion Atlanta Braves in 2021 and opted out of a deal with the New York Mets last week.
According to an announcement made by the AL Central club, right-hander Luke Jackson has signed a minor league contract with the Royals.
Jackson was left unsigned during spring training and did not pitch in a game until the first week of April with the Mets.
“Not too long ago, he was an important leverage arm in the big leagues. With Atlanta in 2021, he posted a 1.98 ERA and recorded 31 holds,” Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote Friday. “He then made 11 postseason appearances to help Atlanta win that year’s World Series.”

Jackson has pitched for five different clubs since the start of the 2024 season, ending last year with the Seattle Mariners.
In 2025, he posted a 4.06 ERA with just 38 strikeouts in 51 innings.
