At this point in the summer, your TV viewing habits probably look like an endless alternating loop between the World Cup and Love Island USA. Whether you’re cheering for your favorite team or your favorite couple, you have ample opportunities for screaming at the screen. But there’s no shame in that; all the best television of the year has made our emotions run high.
In the first half of 2026, we’ve felt serious workplace stress courtesy of Industry and The Pitt; spine-tingling fear thanks to Widow’s Bay; contagious joy on account of Hacks; and closet envy owing to Sarah Pidgeon’s Carolyn Bessette Kennedy on Love Story. That’s what great shows do: They make us feel things, even to an extreme.
There’s more bingeing and appointment viewing to be had in the second half of the year, but as of June 2026, here are the best TV shows of the year so far.
