The actress incorporated a custom arrangement of DMX’s music into her walk down the aisle during the couple’s July 18 ceremony in New York.
Actress Paige Hurd married Charlotte Hornets forward Royce O’Neale on July 18 at Oheka Castle in Huntington, New York, in a ceremony that included a musical tribute to her late godfather, the rapper DMX.
Hurd, known for her role in “Power Book II: Ghost,” entered from the top of the castle’s stone staircase in a Galia Lahav gown, escorted by her father, Charlie, toward the altar.
For her procession, Hurd commissioned a custom string arrangement blending DMX’s “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” with the traditional “Wedding March.” A live string ensemble performed the piece as a gospel choir sang.
Tashera Simmons, DMX’s ex-wife, attended the ceremony with the four children she shared with the rapper and shared footage of the tribute on social media, describing it as a fitting way to honor him.
Hurd met DMX, born Earl Simmons, in 2003 while filming “Cradle 2 the Grave.” His family later embraced her as a goddaughter, and the two remained close in the years that followed; they also had matching tattoos featuring lyrics written in his handwriting.
The tribute follows a series of posthumous honors for DMX this year. In May, the Yonkers City Council voted to rename the intersection of School Street and Brooke Street — near the public housing complex where he grew up — “Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons Way.” Earlier this year, he was also posthumously ordained as a minister by Foster Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in New York.
Hurd and O’Neale exchanged vows before 221 guests, including Meagan Good, Jonathan Majors, Coco Jones, Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson. The reception featured a five-tier red velvet cake, a private fireworks display and a first dance set to Whitney Houston’s “I Believe in You and Me.”
