It’s just two and half years since Fortnite added its Festival music-game mode, yet here we are with the rhythm-minigame entering its 15th season. And as usual, there’s a real-world music star as its chosen ‘icon’.
That star is American artist Lil Tecca, who Fortnite publisher Epic Games is presenting as a platform native: “He got his start rapping with friends while playing Fortnite…”
There are branded Lil Tecca items and outfits to unlock or buy in Fortnite’s season pass and store, as well as four ‘jam tracks’ from his back catalogue to play along too.
It’s a useful snapshot of how Fortnite’s music strategy has evolved. What began as huge set-piece virtual performances – Travis Scott, Ariana Grande etc – has now become a seasonal battle-pass refresh cycle, and a box to tick for major artist campaigns.
(That said, Lil Tecca’s last album came out a year ago, and the accompanying tour wrapped in November 2025, so this is an off-cycle promotional moment. Although that could make it an ideal opportunity to announce new music…)
There is also something interesting in the way these Festival promotions are as much about fashion as music, with the branded outfits – often based on costumes from tours or music videos – and items.
The music is still there with the jam tracks, but Fortnite partnerships for artists are now as much about the high-margin digital merch driven by their visual IP. And in the case of young artists like Lil Tecca, those formative years spent playing Fortnite may well have influenced their aesthetic in the first place.
