Al Roker revealed his granddaughter Sky fell ill and had to be carried as the ring bearer at his daughter Leila’s wedding

Not everything went according to plan when Al Roker‘s daughter, Leila Roker, recently tied the knot.
The 71-year-old Today show weatherman shared details from Leila’s big day marrying Sylvain Gricourt during the Monday, June 1 broadcast of the NBC morning show. After watching a viral video about a ring bearer falling asleep while delivering the rings in a motorized car, Al noted that something similar happened at Leila’s wedding with his granddaughter, Sky.
“Recently, Leila got married and Sky was gonna be the ring bearer, but she woke up with a fever, so we had to give her some Motrin, so her dad, Wes, had to carry her down while Courtney threw the flower petals,” Al shared, showing a photo of little Sky in her father’s arms while wearing a white dress for the big day.
Sky is the nearly 3-year-old daughter of Al’s daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, and her husband, Wes.

Al added that while things didn’t go exactly to plan, everyone still loved Sky’s appearance, despite the fact that she was asleep.
“Everybody went ‘awww,’ ” Al shared.
Co-host Craig Melvin added of little Sky, “She woke up later on the dance floor!” to which Al replied, “Yes, she did!”

Al hasn’t shared much from the wedding after spilling the beans that Leila tied the knot last month.
During the Tuesday, May 12, broadcast, the longtime weatherman was discussing the hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius, when he mentioned that he recently returned from Europe for his daughter’s wedding with his wife, Deborah Roberts.
“I was coming from Europe this weekend from my daughter’s wedding, and the CDC was asking people to voluntarily test,” Al said at the time. “But they didn’t say for what, so I just wonder if it was a precaution here.”

He also mentioned that Leila and Gricourt would be tying the knot on Mother’s Day weekend during a May 1 interview with Swooon.
“Our daughter, Leila, is getting married, just before Mother’s Day. That Mother’s Day weekend, actually,” he previously told the outlet. “So, that’s kind of her Mother’s Day gift, I guess.”
Leila, 27, and Gricourt announced their engagement in March 2025. The couple has been together for seven years after meeting when Leila moved to Paris to study at the American University of Paris.
