Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have shared how much their bond grew during their time filming both Wicked and Wicked: For Good, but some Ariana Grande fans are now accusing the Elphaba actress of “ridiculous” behavior that they felt was her trying to upstage her co-star.
Erivo, 38, is often seen on red carpets alongside Grande, 32, as they promote their film together, and some fans have praised the pair for seeming like they have a sisterly bond.
Erivo also faced praise when she pulled a “motherly” move to jump to Grande’s defense when a fan rushed her on the carpet during the film’s Singapore premiere.
However, now some feel she is actually doing things she does to draw more attention to herself and away from her co-star, and have blasted her online for it.
The latest criticisms came after a clip surfaced on YouTube of the pair during an interview, where the reporter asked Grande questions, and Erivo then began to fuss with the singer’s necklace.
As Grande talks about a “beautiful sistership” they shared, Erivo is seen suddenly frowning at Grande’s necklace and then reaching over to fiddle with it, leading Grande to then acknowledge what was happening.
“Something’s bothering her, she’s going to fix something, I know it,” Grande says. “She’s getting the fixing itch that only Cynthia Erivo gets.”
Erivo then continues to turn the necklace around on Grande’s neck, as the interview resumes.
“We all know there was nothing that needed to be fixed,” a person captioned the clip.
“There was nothing wrong with that necklace,” another commented.
Others slammed the move as simply being an invasion of personal space.
“She just wanted to touch you,” one person said.
“Ewww cringe. Personal space invading,” a second wrote.
Wicked: For Good hits theatres Friday, Nov. 21.
