Ariana Grande Wows in Custom Fendi Polka Dress at MTV VMAs 2025

Ariana Grande brought the polka dot trend to the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards 2025 in New York City on Sunday. The Oscar-nominated “Wicked” star wore a custom look by Fendi inspired by a dress from the 1980s by the namesake brand, designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, who currently serves as the fashion designer and artistic director of accessories and menswear for the Italian luxury fashion house.

The black-and-white, floor-length, strapless dress featured a sweetheart neckline in a polka dot print. The column gown included a voluminous blush peplum waist for added contrast. Stylist Law Roach curated the Oscar-nominated “Wicked” star’s look.

Along with her dress, Grande wore pieces of jewelry by Swarovski. The “Positions” singer has a close relationship with Swarovski, serving as a global brand ambassador to the jewelry and crystal label since July 2024. Grande has appeared in several campaigns for Swarovski, including the brand’s 1960s-inspired spring 2025 collection campaign in April.

Grande’s polka dot dress highlights the ongoing popularity of the pattern, which recently saw a resurgence in many corners of the world. High-profile American stars like Julia Garner and Sarah Jessica Parker both styled polka dots for spring and summer in designs by Gucci and Luisa Beccaria, respectively.

Across the pond, members of the British royal family have put their stamp on the trend, from Princess Charlotte at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final match (wearing Guess) to Queen Camilla’s recent Fiona Clare-designed polka dot frock while out during a royal engagement on Tuesday.

Though the polka dot motif has a rather spotty history, the pattern was well sought-after in the 20th century, as a means to denote the refined, precise grade of industrial manufacturing. Katharine Hepburn was among the film stars who helped pioneer this pattern.

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards take place live at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, hosted by LL Cool J. This year’s show features performances from Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Doja Cat, Katseye and other artists, celebrating music’s biggest names and electrifying cultural moments worldwide.
