When The Amazing Race 38 released its cast, there was plenty of familiar faces to behold. After all, this season of the Emmy-winning CBS show will be one big crossover experiment, featuring Big Brother alumni along with their loved ones. But there was one piece of information that even fans of the “expect the unexpected” series didn’t expect:
“Wait, Taylor and Kyland are dating?!”
That was the near-unanimous response to seeing the one Season 38 team of two former houseguests: Taylor Hale and Kyland Young. Indeed, the Big Brother 24 winner and Big Brother 23 juror have been keeping their relationship under wraps since they began seeing each other. However, they’re about to go public in a major way, relying on each other more than ever in the hopes of ending their European Adventure a million dollars richer. And Hale, for one, could not be more eager to do so.
“I’m excited,” the Big Brother: Unlocked host says in an exclusive interview with Parade. “Now it’s out there. We’re publicly saying that we’ve been in a very on-and-off relationship.”
Not only that, the former Miss Michigan teases that the race not only served as a competition to put up their best against some of their former allies, but also an opportunity to assess where they are as a team — and a couple in general.
“You’re going to see two people that just really, really, really love each other so much and so deeply, and just want to figure out the s–t of our relationship,” she says. “And you’re going to see two people clashing, but doing it from a place of, ‘I just love you so much and I want to be with you, and I hope this works.'”
Of course, jumping feet first into another reality show always comes with trepidations, let alone one that has you delving into an entire part of your life that you have largely kept private from millions of people. But she was willing to do with The Challenge standout, whom she outright refers to as the love of her life.
“I did the public relationship thing,” she recalls, alluding to her time with fellow Season 24 contestant Joseph Abdin (who is also competing on The Amazing Race alongside his brother). “I said, ‘I don’t ever want to do it again.’ But then I got an offer to do it with the love of my life for a million dollars and figure it all out. That’s the opportunity of a lifetime. Why wouldn’t I do it?
“I think you’re all going to see a very deeply loving, emotional side of both of us,” she continues, “along with the competitive people that you know. So it’ll be an interesting reintroduction to the two of us.”
We shall get a reintroduction to Hale, Young and many other Big Brother alumni with the premiere of The Amazing Race 38 tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
