BuckStar will perform at the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City on Saturday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m., bringing their blend of Americana, country, rock, and R&B to the stage for a full evening concert.
Formed in 2015, BuckStar is a five-piece ensemble made up of brothers Tom and Eric Menig, married couple Jenn Knapp and Rob Kopp, and Larry Tracy. Over the past decade, the band has developed a strong following throughout California, performing at festivals, clubs, and theaters while releasing three full-length albums. Their sound reflects a roots-based approach shaped by collective songwriting, close vocal interplay, and experienced musicianship.
Joining BuckStar for this performance will be vocalist and songwriter China Rose Kopp, a family member whose contributions add another vocal dimension to the group’s live presentation.
At the center of BuckStar’s musical identity are the original songs of Jenn Knapp, who grew up in Alleghany, California. Knapp began writing music following the death of a close friend, teaching herself guitar on an instrument passed down from her grandfather. Her songwriting partnership with drummer Rob Kopp predates BuckStar, tracing back to their earlier band, the Cheatin’ Buzzies. That group released three albums and built a substantial regional reputation before evolving into the current BuckStar project.
Much of BuckStar’s recorded material has been produced at Silver Maple Studio, owned by guitarist Tom Menig. Menig’s work on guitar and pedal steel has played a significant role in shaping the band’s warm, roots-forward sound, blending traditional Americana textures with modern arrangements.
Members of BuckStar are also active in other musical projects. Kopp and the Menig brothers regularly perform with The Deadbeats, a well-known West Coast tribute band, further demonstrating their versatility and presence within the regional music scene.
BuckStar’s Nevada Theatre appearance will feature original material drawn from across their catalog, highlighting lyrical storytelling, steady rhythms, and ensemble-driven performance. The Nevada Theatre’s intimate setting offers an ideal environment for the band’s acoustic and electric textures.
Tickets are priced at $20 for general admission and $30 for reserved seating. Advance purchase is recommended due to limited seating.
