Camille Camille, the musical project of Belgian singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist Camille Willemart, has shared In A Song, a new single and video out now via Labelman, and the first taste of an upcoming album expected later this year.
Since her 2021 debut Could You Lend Me Your Eyes, Willemart has built a reputation for music that prizes stillness and sincerity — intimate folk sketches that hold hope and melancholy in careful balance. In A Song marks a subtle but confident shift. Where her debut moved in hushed, contemplative currents, the new track pulses with a kind of restless forward motion, its psychedelic folk textures and medievalesque vocals wrapped around an insistent, rhythmic core.
The song has a long and peripatetic history. “The seed for In a Song started sprouting in the spring of 2023 as I navigated life in Amsterdam, moving between our sailboat home, subrents along the canals, and the boatyard,” Willemart explains. “I was stuck with only a guitar line for an unusually long time until I finally found melody and words that could do it justice. That was quite new for me compared to my usual creating process. Very quickly, I found myself tapping my feet on the ground in a train-like percussion every time I played the tune. That loop felt evident from the start and became an underlying blanket throughout the track.” The skeleton was recorded in a temporary home in Ghent and completed in spring 2025 alongside sound engineer Michiel Renson.
The accompanying video came together with equal spontaneity. “It was just us, a small digital camera and the dry landscapes of the Canary Islands during our meanderings with our dear floating home, Saga, last winter,” she says of the footage shot with her creative and life partner Vincent Leroi, which Willemart herself directed and edited. The results are as unhurried and transportive as the song itself.
Lyrically, the track turns on a small question with a large emotional weight behind it — “What could possibly go wrong / Shall I put it in a song” — and Willemart is clear about its intent: “‘In a Song’ is an ode to doubt, intimacy, the longing for answers, and the beginning of a new chapter.”
