In an interview with Billboard ahead of the release of her highly anticipated second studio album, Am I the Drama?, Cardi B revealed that she turned down a lucrative gig in the past.
Speaking with Carl Lamarre, as seen below, Cardi was asked around the 19-minute mark of the interview if the Super Bowl Halftime Show is something she could see herself doing in the future. “Of course, definitely,” she shared. “And I’m really glad it’s… that —What year I got asked to do the Super Bowl? I’m not sure if it was 2019, 2018, and I denied. But I’m glad. I feel like soon. If I get to do it, I feel like I’m going to have more hits, and I feel like I’m going to be more experienced. And hey, I’mma eat that up.”
Cardi B released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, all the way back in 2018. She’s been teasing its long-awaited follow-up for years, and it’s finally set to drop on September 19. Recorded over a six-year period, a lot has changed for the artist since her debut record. She divorced from Offset, welcomed three children, released the hugely popular single “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion, and came out on top in several lawsuits and court cases.
Most recently, Cardi went viral after she had several hilarious moments during her trial in connection with an alleged assault of a security guard in 2018. She was able to beat the case and has since put up pre-orders for several “courtroom edition” physical copies of Am I the Drama?, which are available to purchase on her website now.
Elsewhere in her Billboard interview, Cardi spoke bout becoming a fashion icon, how she’s grown since the release of Invasion of Privacy, being outspoken when it comes to politics, and what fans can expect from her tour in support of the new album.
