WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Celtic Fest returned to Lazarre Park with a variety of music, dancing, vendors, and family activities that celebrate Celtic culture.
Guests like Mike Long recently discovered his Celtic roots and came to make connections with those of similar heritage.
“We all have a warrior background,” Long said. “The Scots are warriors. The Celts are warriors. You look at Ireland, you look at Scotland, you hear the pipes. To me, that puts tears in my eyes and everything. So it’s a whole thing of doing this.”
Celtic Fest is the longest-running festival in Ouachita Parish and is part of a larger effort to bring more entertainment offerings in West Monroe.
“So we offer a full entertainment schedule,” said West Monroe Main Street Director Adrienne LaFrance-Wells. “Everyone from local artists who have some connection to Celtic traditions, all the way to artists that we bring in that play Irish music and it’s a wonderful way to cultivate the next generation of artists and musicians to consider maybe performing on the Celtic Fest stage themselves one day.”
Long says the music and atmosphere only made his time more meaningful.
“It’s just a joy to be here under the sun, in the trees, in the shade, listening to music and seeing people walk around and enjoy the venue,” Long said.
