Channing Tatum made a rare comment about his split from ex-wife Jenna Dewan, and the Roofman star admitted that they tried to hold on to their relationship for as long as they could before ultimately calling it quits.
“Jenna and I are good now, but it was a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young,” Tatum, 45, said during an interview with Variety published on Tuesday, September 2. “We tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half.”
He continued, “Not to go into all that. It’s in the past. But it’s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time.”
Tatum and Dewan, 44, first met on the set of Step Up and he later proposed in September 2008. Less than a year later, the two tied the knot on July 11, 2009, in Malibu, California.

“I’m as happy as I possibly can be on the planet right now,” the White House Down star told People at the time.
In December 2012, Dewan and Tatum announced they were expecting their first child together, and they welcomed daughter Everly Tatum six months later.
After rumors swirled for months that the couple had gone their separate ways, they announced their separation in April 2018. By October of that same year, Dewan had officially filed for divorce, though it wouldn’t be finalized until September 2024.
Since then, both parties have moved on. Dewan now shares two children with her fiancé, Steve Kazee, who she’s been with since late 2018. Tatum was engaged to Zöe Kravitz, but they broke up in October 2024, and he’s now dating model Inka Williams.
