Faith plays a visible role in the lives of many Nigerian celebrities. While some openly share their spiritual journeys, others prefer to keep their worship private. Still, over the years, several churches have become closely associated with actors, musicians, comedians and media personalities who attend services, celebrate milestones or publicly acknowledge their pastors. Temitope Adetunji takes a look at some of the churches that have attracted a long list of famous faces
The Love of God in Christ Church
Led by Flourish Peters, The Love of God in Christ (L.O.G.I.C) Church has grown into one of Nigeria’s fast-rising Christian ministries, with a strong presence among young professionals and creatives. Located in Lekki, Lagos, the church is known for its contemporary worship style, teachings on grace and its active digital presence.
Over the years, the church has attracted attention for the number of entertainers and public figures who have attended its services and programmes, leading some to describe it as a “celebrity church.” Among personalities who have been publicly associated with the church are Toke Makinwa, Brain Jotter, Neo Akpofure, Tope Olowoniyan, among others.
Toke Makinwa actually held a dedication ceremony for her daughter at the Lekki church in 2025.
Harvesters International Christian Centre
Founded by Bolaji Idowu, Harvesters International Christian Centre has grown into one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing churches, with a strong following among young professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs.
Known for its contemporary worship style, practical teachings and strong digital presence, the church has attracted personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment and creative industries. Singer, Timi Dakolo, has publicly spoken about worshipping at Harvesters and expressed his appreciation for Idowu’s teachings.
Fashion designer, Veekee James, is also associated with the church and has described Idowu as her “spiritual father”. In December 2023, Afrobeats singer, Davido, attended the church’s crossover service ahead of the New Year, an appearance that generated significant attention on social media.
Beyond its regular services, Harvesters’ conferences and special programmes have attracted actors, musicians, media personalities, entrepreneurs and other public figures over the years. Celebrities who have been seen at the church or its events include Stephanie Linus, Tiwa Savage, Peller, Broda Shaggi, Spyro and Hilda Baci.
The Waterbrook Church
The Waterbrook Church became even more prominent within entertainment circles after singer, actor and politician, Bankole Wellington, aka Banky W, was ordained as a pastor. Long before entering ministry, he had established himself as one of Nigeria’s leading music stars, making his transition into pastoral leadership a widely discussed development.
His wife and actress, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, also worships at the church. Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, worshipped at the church before her marriage and met her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa, there. The church has also hosted celebrity weddings, thanksgiving services and baby dedications involving notable figures in the entertainment industry.
The Elevation Church
Founded by Godman Akinlabi, The Elevation Church has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading churches for young professionals, media personalities, and entertainers due to its contemporary style, youthfulness, and focus on career and family.
Singer, Paul Okoye (formerly of P-Square), has been associated with the church. He reportedly dedicated his daughter, Imani, at the church’s Lekki headquarters on January 5, 2025, alongside family members, including his wife, Ivy Ifeoma, and his elder brother, Jude.
Christ Embassy
Founded by Chris Oyakhilome in 1987, Christ Embassy, also known as LoveWorld Incorporated, has grown into a global Christian ministry with a strong presence in Nigeria and other countries. The church is recognised for its media platforms, international conferences and influential music ministry.
Gospel artistes such as Sinach, Frank Edwards and Ada Ehi are among the musicians who built significant parts of their careers through LoveWorld’s music platform. Through its worship programmes, concerts and global events, Christ Embassy continues to attract gospel artistes and other public figures.
Trinity House
Led by Ituah Ighodalo, Trinity House has become one of Nigeria’s well-known churches, attracting worshippers from diverse backgrounds.
The church has hosted weddings, thanksgiving services, memorials and other events attended by prominent entertainers, business leaders and public figures. Pastor Ighodalo is also widely respected by many celebrities, several of whom have sought his counsel over the years.
Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, is the most prominent celebrity associated with attending and supporting the church.
Streams of Joy International
Founded by Jerry Eze, Streams of Joy International has grown rapidly through its physical branches and global online prayer platform, New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations. The ministry has attracted a wide audience, including professionals, public figures and entertainers who have attended its services, participated in prayer gatherings or shown support for Eze’s ministry.
Entertainment personalities who have been publicly associated with the ministry include Tonto Dikeh, Patience Ozokwo, and Francis Duru , who have attended Streams of Joy programmes and events.
House on the Rock
Founded by Paul Adefarasin, House on the Rock is one of Nigeria’s most influential Pentecostal churches. The church is widely known for hosting The Experience, an annual gospel concert that attracts tens of thousands of worshippers and internationally acclaimed gospel ministers.
Over the years, the church has been associated with several celebrities, including comedian, Julius Agwu; and media personality, IK Osakioduwa. Actors, musicians and other public figures also regularly attend the church’s worship services and major events.
Celestial Church of Christ
Founded in 1947 by Samuel Oshoffa, the Celestial Church of Christ is one of Nigeria’s most recognised white garment churches, with branches spread across Nigeria and other parts of the world. Although celebrities may worship at different branches, several Nigerian entertainers have been publicly associated with the denomination. These include Funke Akindele, Regina Daniels, Eniola Badmus, Liz Da-Silva and Ronke Oshodi-Oke, who have been seen at the church’s services and events.
