The Beast in Me is a new psychological thriller on Netflix and it follows reclusive author Aggie Wiggs.
American actress Claire Danes plays the role of the emotionally vulnerable author, following the heartbreaking death of her son.
Her stellar performance has led fans to wonder about her life off-screen, and whether she has children in real life.
The 46-year-old star has won numerous awards from Emmys to Golden Globes, and in 2012, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Born in Manhatten, her mother was a sculptor and printmaking artist and her father a photographer. She also has an older brother, Asa, who is a lawyer.
Her mother Carla would later become Claire’s manager.
While she initially started out in dance, she turned her attention to acting when she was just nine years old and landed her first big job aged 13.
In 2015, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
As for her personal life, she began dating actor Billy Crudup in 2003, having starred with him in Stage Beauty.
Their relationship was a hot topic as it involved Crudup’s break-up with actress Mary-Louise Parker, who was seven months pregnant with their son William at the time.
The pair were together for three years, but separated in 2006.
In the same year she met actor Hugh Dancy on the set of the film Evening and they got engaged in 2009. They married in France later that year.
Dancy, 50, is an English actor who played the title character in the TV film adaptation of David Copperfield.
His other credits include Black Hawk Down, Ella Enchanted and Hannibal.
The couple have three children – two sons, Cyrus and Rowan born in 2012 and 2018, and a daughter born in 2023 whose name has not been revealed.
Speaking to People in 2013, the star knew she had found the right person, saying: “Hugh was just the right partner for me. I got very, very lucky.
“There’s only so much credit you can take when it just sort of works, you know?”
She had always envisaged having children, but was glad she waited until she had established a name for herself.
“When I was thinking about [working and being a mother] originally, I was really nervous about it,” she confessed.
