CORBIN — The streets of downtown Corbin were alive with music, laughter and community spirit as the city celebrated its 73rd annual NIBROC Festival last week.
Festivities kicked off Wednesday evening with a special $20 armband night — giving thrill-seekers unlimited access to carnival rides. Vendors also began setting up along the streets — offering a wide variety of food, crafts and festival favorites.
Known for bringing beloved musical acts to the heart of the city, this year’s NIBROC featured a mix of local talent and well-known country music stars.
On Thursday night, Chris Jansen took the stage — energizing the crowd with his chart-topping hits, including “Buy Me a Boat” and “Fix a Drink.”
Other musical acts at the festival included local bands known as Dad’s Mad, County Wide, Chad Rogers, and some Motown and rock and roll hits from the Sidewinders group.
Saturday’s headliner, Sammy Kershaw, closed out the festival with a nostalgic performance of 90s country classics such as “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful” and “Cadillac Style,” drawing a large crowd of fans singing along.
The festival also offered plenty of activities beyond the music. One of the most anticipated annual traditions, the “Fastest Kid in Town” race, brought young runners to the streets Friday evening to prove their speed.
Immediately following, the NIBROC 2-Miler welcomed runners of all ages, from competitive athletes to families enjoying the race together.
Thursday’s NIBROC Parade was another major highlight — filling Kentucky Street with colorful floats, marching bands and spirited participants.
Local businesses, community organizations and the Corbin Independent School District’s athletic teams all joined in — creating a lively and memorable procession for spectators lining the streets.
Throughout the four days, visitors enjoyed the return of the Pepsi NIBROC Volleyball Tournament, a variety of contests, and countless opportunities for friends, families and locals to participate in while enjoying downtown Corbin.
Many restaurants and shops stayed open during the event downtown — welcoming festival-goers to enjoy local dining and to shop local while still engaging in the festival attractions.
From thrilling rides to toe-tapping music and friendly competition, the 73rd NIBROC Festival celebrated yet another successful year, and continues to be a much anticipated summertime event.
