Netflix announced a new thriller, Heartland, starring John Hawkes and Jessica Chastain.

Carter Faith is having the year of her life! The 25-year-old country singer landed Billy Bob Thornton for her “Bar Star” music video, she was dubbed the 2025 MusicRow Awards Discovery Artist of the Year, and she’s going on tour with Noah Cyrus later this month—all in an effort to promote her upcoming debut album, Cherry Valley, which arrives October 3. While the “Arrows” singer has been in Nashville for the past six or so years honing her country craft, she’s what some might call the next big thing—and now, she’s taking her iconic country look and sound beyond the soundstage and straight to Netflix.
On Monday, September 8, Deadline reported that Carter is joining Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain and Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes in the Netflix mystery thriller film, Heartland—not to be confused with the 18-season, Alberta, Canada-set series of the same name.
The same day, Carter confirmed the news on Instagram. “they’re gonna put me in the moviessssss💫craziest thing ever to say that i’m gonna be in a movie???? HEARTLAND coming soon to @netflix ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” she captioned a photo of herself holding the script, along with a screengrab of the Deadline story.
According to Deadline, Heartland “follows Misty Jones (Chastain), a former country star who comes out of seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her missing niece (Faith), herself a rising country musician. She must grapple with her own past and Nashville’s seedy underbelly, and her search uncovers a murky side of Nashville where no one, including Misty, is who they seem.”
Carter’s fans are thrilled to see her take her creative vision and country chops to the streamer. “get u a girl who’s a bar star AND a movie star,” one fan commented. “She’s an ACTRESS!!!! 🙌🙌,” someone else exclaimed.
While the Heartland premiere date has yet to be announced, considering the film is directed and co-written by Shana Feste, known for titles like Run Sweetheart Run, Endless Love, and Country Strong, it’s one certainly worth keeping an eye on.
