Boy George has revealed the secret behind his recent songwriting success.
The 80s music icon has opened up about turning to artificial intelligence for help with lyrics, even admitting he has used AI to write multiple albums.
The Culture Club frontman, whose real name is George Alan O’Dowd, made the admission while speaking to British host and author Fearne Cotton on a recent episode of her podcast Happy Place.

“I’ve written like five albums with AI, I’ve actually had a couple of things covered by artists as well,” George said.
Cotton initially appeared surprised before noting while there is plenty of fear surrounding AI, there can also be benefits when it’s used the right way.
Boy George, who served as a coach on The Voice for four seasons, revealed he is using AI to write songs while on the North American leg of his Culture Club tour.
The Karma Chameleon singer said he also enjoys that AI allows him to work more independently.
“I have fantastic conversations with ChatGPT and I’ll say, ‘Oh those lyrics are crap, that’s not what I would say’,” he said.
“But actually, you can train it.
“My manager was saying last night, ‘You know you’re talking to someone in China’.
“I was like, I couldn’t care less.
“An artist like me, they try to force you to work in an old-fashioned way. I’m ahead of them.”
Artificial intelligence produced music
Boy George is not the first of his music industry peers to integrate AI into their creative process.
In June 2025, rapper and producer Timbaland announced he had signed an AI-generated music artist TaTa Taktumi to his new label, Stage Zero.
The label aims to blend AI-generated sounds with human creativity to create A-Pop, or AI pop.
Working with several collaborators and a range of multimedia tools — including the AI-powered music generation software Suno — Timbaland created TaTa Taktumi from the ground up.
The company released Tata’s first single Glitch x Pulse in October last year. Tata’s voice is AI-generated, as is her digital presence in the accompanying music video.
