DDG has opened up about spending a substantial amount of money to embark on his Blame the Chat tour.
Last week, on the inaugural episode of The Tour, the popular streamer and rapper gave a tour of his Los Angeles mansion. Around the seven-minute mark of the video below, DDG explained that until his recent tour, he hadn’t been on the road for live performances in five years, which he considers to be “bad for artists.”
“Artists are supposed to go on tour once a year, once or two times a year,” he explained.
The streamer added that on his first tour, he grossed $10,000 after a little over a month but lost between $100,000 to $200,000 on his latest tour.
“I overspent for my comfortability,” DDG admitted. “I had two buses, did a lot of things, but when a lot of artists don’t understand when you go on tour to begin with, you don’t make money. You start making money as you grow.”
DDG added that he hit the road simply to “get back out there” and detailed how his money is spent on touring.
“With tour is all about travel, moving people around, bus,” he continued. “I’m IRL streaming my entire tour. So, I needed three security guards just for my own safety and comfortability. I’m flying people, feeding 12 plus people. So, it adds up really quickly.”
While admitting that it was a “learning experience” that showed him he “could have saved some money,” he’s more so interested in “continuing to grow the rooms.”
DDG’s income appears to be drastically more than what he makes from music, which he explained in a chat with Akademiks during ComplexCon last year.
“For what I signed for, I made that in 30 days on Twitch,” DDG said, referring to his deal on Epic Records.
