Brandon Blackstock passed away at 48 years old after privately fighting a lengthy battle with melanoma.
Sources confirmed to TMZ that the late talent manager had been diagnosed with the disease more than three years ago. While it is considered a “highly curable” form of cancer if discovered early, according to the Mayo Clinic, it is also very dangerous due to its ability to spread quickly.
Signs of melanoma can include moles that are itching or bleeding, are asymmetrical in shape or that have unusual colors. It is often caused by exposure to ultraviolet light.
As Star previously reported, a representative of the family confirmed Blackstock’s death on Thursday, August 7.
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” the statement read, per People. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Prior to the announcement, his ex-wife Kelly Clarkson, 43 – who welcomed daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, with Blackstock during their marriage — told fans that she would be postponing her August Studio Session concerts at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote in a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, August 6. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
The American Idol alum and Blackstock separated in 2020 following seven years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in March 2022.
