After a four-year hiatus, the actress is making her return as Shauna Fulton on The Bold and the Beautiful in an episode airing Thursday. In a conversation with PEOPLE ahead of stepping back into the world of the CBS soap, Richards had nothing but good things to say about getting back to work with her former costars.
“It’s nice to be back,” Richards told Entertainment Weekly’s sister outlet. “It feels like I never left. It’s such a great family environment, and I love my character. She likes to cause a little trouble.”
The veteran actress noted that while it can be intimidating working on a set “where people have worked together for so long,” the vibes on the Bold set are very different. “Everyone’s just very embracing and very supportive,” she added. “The actors I was working with made it so much easier to step back in.”

Richards’ return is preceded by the arrival of costar Darin Brooks, who is reprising his role as Wyatt Spencer after two and a half years. EW revealed Monday that Brooks is rejoining the cast, with his first episode back coinciding with his birthday on May 27.
While chatting with EW about his return, Brooks revealed that Wyatt’s “dad forces him to come back to town, and then we realize why he’s here and what he has going on in relation to the girlfriend, to Flo, and to someone who is a part of his life, who also comes back with him.”
At the time, the actor described this mysterious accomplice as “a surprise special guest, who I think you’ll see when we air as well, on the second day. He comes back to L.A. for a reason that his dad asks, but he comes back with a surprise guest.”
Now, fans of the daytime drama know that said guest is, in fact, Richards’ Shauna.
In a preview of the episode shared by PEOPLE, Shauna makes her grand entrance at the offices of Spencer Publications, greeting her former flame Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) during an intense conversation he’s having with his son, Wyatt.
“The Spencer men are so handsome , especially you, Bill,” Shauna tells a shell-shocked Bill. “Congratulations, by the way, I heard about [your company] Logan. You are a real player in the fashion world now.”
“I mean, too bad things didn’t work out with Eric Forrester,” Shauna continues, to the laughter of Wyatt standing behind her. “Katie must be on the hunt for a new designer. Remember Bill, I ran some very high-end boutiques in Vegas, and it just so happens I’m available now. I can just imagine getting in on the ground floor of the newest game in town. Wouldn’t that be something?”

Reflecting on her character’s entrance, Richards told PEOPLE that she was happy that her return coincided with Brooks’. “I loved that Darin was returning too,” she said. “I like that with Wyatt and Shauna, our characters, we’re light and fun, so we’ll see where we go. A lot of times we have no idea what’s going to happen too, which is so fun getting the scripts every Friday.”
Richards began playing Shauna in 2019, years after she was initially turned down for a part on the show. She added that she would advise “every actor [that] they should do a soap at one point or another in their career, especially if they are starting out.”
“It is the best place to learn,” she added. “It moves fast. The pages, there’s so much dialogue and we try to do one or two takes, which can be overwhelming. I mean, if you don’t get it, you don’t get it and you have to do more takes, but you don’t want to be that person that throws the whole schedule off and make everyone be behind. It’s a very well-oiled machine.”
