Entertainment news show to go off the air

After more than 30 years of wall-to-wall coverage of the pop culture universe, “E! News” is signing off the air.

The entertainment news broadcast program, which launched in September 1991, has been canceled for the second time in its three-decade history, a person familiar with the plans who was unauthorized to speak publicly told USA TODAY.

The program will continue to air new episodes through Sept. 25. Additionally, the E! Network plans to maintain its digital presence with its E! Online website, as well as its affiliated social media platforms.

“E! News” staffers were informed of the cancellation on Thursday, July 24. Today’s broadcast will be a repeat episode, but new episodes are expected to resume next week.

The move comes five years after “E! News” went on an indefinite hiatus in March 2020 due, in part, to the E! Network’s suspension of all in-studio programming amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The show returned in November 2022 after it was revived as a late-night news program, co-anchored by actress-singer Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and host Justin Sylvester.

Despite its recent return to TV, E! continues to build on its online news products to meet the demand of real-time entertainment coverage, rendering the “E! News” program incompatible with this digital-first approach.

During the first half of 2025, E!’s social platforms amassed over 7 billion views. Meanwhile, the pop culture news hub boasts more than 87 million followers on social media as of June.

Some “E! News” correspondents will transition over to Versant, a spin-off of parent company NBCUniversal, although specific job opportunities have not been finalized.

‘E! News’ and ‘In the Room’ canceled, partly due to financial fallout from COVID-19

What is the future of E! after news program cancellation?

“E! News,” known for its punchy insider look at the entertainment industry, was originally hosted by reporter Dagny Hultgreen. Over the years, the newscast has featured on-air talent including Ryan Seacrest, Jason Kennedy, Giuliana Rancic, Zuri Hall, Terrence Jenkins, Maria Menounos and Catt Sadler.

The show is currently anchored by hosts Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester.

E! will continue to air its non-news programming, which includes reality-TV shows such as “Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind” and “Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour,” as well as upcoming series “Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane” and “E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals.”

The TV network is also expected to continue its red-carpet coverage of Hollywood’s glitziest award shows, namely the program “Live from E!” The seasonal event series, known for its star-studded interviews and lively fashion commentary, was most recently hosted by actress Laverne Cox (Cox announced her departure in January).
