Fast Money Music has returned with “Lover Boy,” a new single that arrives alongside the announcement of his upcoming self-titled debut album Fast Money Music, due next summer. The release marks the next chapter for the rising artist, expanding the ambitious and genre-blurring sound he’s steadily been shaping.
“Lover Boy” captures a whirlwind of desire, restlessness and unresolved emotion. The track twists a missed connection into a bold chant, balancing swagger with self-doubt as it unpacks the tension between impulse and introspection. Its sonic palette nods to punk irreverence and art-rock eccentricity, blending influences like Viagra Boys, ESG, and The Modern Lovers into a tightly coiled three-minute burst.
Of the track, Nick explains,
It’s controlled chaos, the intersection of passion and lust, caught between impulse and restraint. There’s tragic humour in the idea of being a ‘lover boy,’ alongside the serious weight of wanting love and security. For me, it’s just that: a sonic explosion of that internal struggle, and the uncertainty of what happens if you wait too long.
The single was recorded between Hackney Road Studios and Fast Money Music’s own Dalston workspace, with production handled by the artist and executive production/mixing by Mikko Gordon. The recording features contributions from Jamie Reynolds on bass, John Waugh on saxophone, and Steffan Halperin on drums, with mastering by Matt Colton. A hazy, black-and-white music video accompanies the track, following recent momentum from the previous release “Round and Round,” which earned support from BBC Radio 6, Radio X and Clash Magazine.
