Fox News viewers have torn into Donald Trump after he made a false immigration statement during a video call with members of the military on Thanksgiving.
During the November 27 call, which he took from his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida, the United States President praised the 101st Airborne Division, as some members of this regiment are currently based at the US-Mexico border.
However, during his moment of praise, he couldn’t help but slip in an erroneous dig at Joe Biden, telling the military personnel, “The 101st has done an outstanding job at leading the task force, the joint task force, at our southern border,” before adding, “We have nobody coming in. They’re not coming in. Under Biden, they were coming in by the millions.”
However, the 79-year-old didn’t stop there, as he reiterated his earlier comments. “Now we have nobody coming in. We have a strong border. Nobody talks about it anymore.”
Fox News fans reacted to the false figure laid out by President Trump, with one person writing on X, “Aye, maybe more like ‘nobody’ in your dreams, love. Can’t think of a less convincing way to spin the reality down that border!”
A second person also chimed in, saying, “Neither ‘millions coming in’ nor ‘nobody coming in’ is accurate. The truth is always more nuanced,” as a third person sarcastically wrote, “Wow, from ‘millions’ to ‘nobody.’ That’s not a policy change, that’s a miracle.”
“More lies,” a fourth X user simply penned, with a fellow Fox News viewer demanding, “Border claims like these need clear data. Security is important, but the reality is always more complex than ‘nobody coming in.’ Facts matter more than slogans.”
However, Donald Trump isn’t the only person in the administration claiming that “millions” of immigrants crossed the US border illegally, as on November 26, Stephen Miller, the White House’s deputy chief of staff for policy said on Fox News, “The breaking news tonight is saying that his government is going to accelerate efforts to review every single person added to this country over the last four years, all 20 million.”
This figure, though, is wrong. According to data estimates from the Pew Research Center, there are approximately 11 to 13 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.
Alex Nowrasteh, Senior VP for Policy at the Cato Institute, also backed up this data, writing in a post, “Vice President JD Vance and a collection of online conservative commentators have argued that, as president, Joe Biden let in 20 or 30 million illegal immigrants, swelling their population to 30—50 million.
“These numbers are an exaggeration, but there was a large increase in the illegal immigrant population during the Biden administration.”
