Freida McFadden is the queen of twists, but she never saw this one coming: Vanna White recommended her book The Housemaid on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
When Paul Feig — who directed the upcoming film adaptation of McFadden’s wildly successful 2022 novel — appeared on a recent episode of the game show, he gave the movie a shout-out.
“You think about Bridesmaids, Spy, Heat. You are the go-to comedy director. What comedy is next for you?” Celebrity Wheel of Fortune host Ryan Seacrest asked, to which Feig, 63, replied, “My next comedy is not a comedy at all. It’s actually called The Housemaid.”
White, 68, didn’t waste any time sharing her endorsement of the psychological thriller, interrupting Feig to sing its praises.
“Oh, oh! One of my favorite books. Loved it!” she told Feig. “Can’t wait to see it.”
Feig was appreciative of White’s excitement about the film and made sure to give McFadden, 45, credit for the captivating story.
“Thank you, Vanna,” he said. “Freida McFadden, the writer, is great. It’s a thriller with lots of twists and turns, but it’s a fun thriller, I will say.”
McFadden recorded the Celebrity Wheel of Fortune moment on TV and posted the clip via Instagram on Saturday, November 22.
“Paul Feig on Wheel of Fortune! And the great Vanna White said she loved The Housemaid!!!! Somebody pinch me …,” she captioned the video.
Feig subsequently left a sweet comment for McFadden, writing, “So honored that you entrusted me with directing your amazing novel. Thank you, Freida. I think we did you proud!”
Sydney Sweeney — who plays the lead role of Millie Calloway in the film — also “liked” McFadden’s Instagram post.
McFadden’s popular book series includes The Housemaid, 2023’s The Housemaid’s Secret and 2024’s The Housemaid Is Watching. Feig’s film will cover the events of the first novel, which centers around a young woman named Millie who becomes a live-in housemaid for a seemingly perfect, wealthy family hiding dark secrets in their home.
In addition to Sweeney, 28, the cast of The Housemaid includes Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, Michele Morrone as Enzo and Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn Winchester. The film is set to be released in theaters on December 19.
