The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony saw Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson join in helping honor Soundgarden. But the 70s rock icon revealed in a backstage interview that she believes one specific radio host deserves the Hall of Fame honor next year.
Wilson advocated for SirisuXM’s Howard Stern to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Her reasoning may be surprising, seeing as Stern isn’t a musician by trade.
“Howard is such a rock star and such a patron of rock and roll,” Wilson explained, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
“He could actually be inducted next year and I would say yes to that,” she said while also commenting on Stern’s “colorful” way of being.
While Stern is noted as one of the most successful radio hosts, having sat behind the mic at SiriusXM for nearly 20 years, he has ruffled a few feathers over the years. Some have called him controversial for pushing the boundaries, explicit content, talking taboo topics, and his brutally honest on-air style.
Wilson was comical in her response about Stern’s controversial image, saying, “He’s not an asshole anymore!”
In his career, Stern has been a patron of the rock and roll scene, interviewing legends like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ringo Starr. He’s even sat across from the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Guns N’Roses’ Slash, and Alice Cooper.
If they’re in the rock category, Stern has likely invited them on his show. Stern was at the forefront, interviewing Kurt Cobain before the global fame of Nirvana, and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. The 80s rock band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with a special remembrance for lead singer Chris Cornell.
Stern has previously spoken of his love for the music genre, calling it “the only music that really mattered to me.” He quotes it for telling the truth about life and calls himself a “rock and roll guy who happens to do radio.”
