When it comes to leaving easter eggs for her fans, Taylor Swift is certainly up there.
The 35-year-old megastar is set to drop her 12th studio album called The Life Of A Showgirl, which is slated for release on October 3, also known as Mean Girls day.
Mean Girls Day is October 3 because it commemorates an iconic moment from the 2004 film in which Lindsay Lohan’s character Cady Heron, who has a crush on Jonathan Bennett’s Aaron Samuels, is asked what day it is by him, and she replies, “It’s October 3rd.” Fans of the movie celebrate the day by referencing this famous moment, making the date a recurring nod to the beloved teen comedy.
The reason Taylor could be releasing the album on Mean Girls Day could be a nod back to her previous feud with fellow pop star Katy Perry.
In a previous Rolling Stone interview, Taylor discussed how her song Bad Blood, from her album 1989, is about a female musical artist whom she won’t name, who “tried to sabotage” her tour by hiring people on her staff.
To add to the drama, as is often the case in A-list circles, the pair dated the same celebrity at different times. Katy spent two years dating John Mayer, who previously dated Taylor. Following the breakup, John believed that the Cruel Summer hitmaker’s song Dear John was about him, but despite this, she stressed that the feud with the artist she mentions is not “about a guy.”
In case anyone had any doubt which “unnamed female artist” Katy believed Taylor was referring to, she sent out a cryptic tweet the day after the article was published, referring to Rachel McAdams’ bullying character in Mean Girls.
“Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…” Katy penned in the tweet.
Then, Taylor dropped her 2017 hit Look What You Made Me Do, which was the first single off her upcoming album reputation, fans wasted not a single second decoding every lyric in hopes of potential digs at her celebrity foes.

In one scene of the Look What You Made Me Do music video, Taylor appears to recreate the iconic “Jingle Bells Rock” scene from Mean Girls. She struts her stuff alongside a group of male dancers all rocking “I Heart TS” shirts.
In another Mean Girls reference, possibly playing into Katy’s cryptic tweet, Taylor sings, “I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined / I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!”
Here it’s assumed that she alludes to having her own “Burn Book” similar to that of Regina and The Plastics’ in Mean Girls.
Once McAdams’ character finds out Cady Heron is sabotaging her slim figure by feeding Regina nutrition bars used to gain weight, she runs home to wreak havoc on the Burn Book. Regina frames Cady for coming up with the book’s most salacious content, and the drama gets real.
So could Taylor’s decision to drop he Life Of A Showgirl on October 3 be another Mean Girls nod? The answer remains a mystery.
