Hall & Oates, also known as Daryl Hall and John Oates, is one of the most successful recording duos of all time, racking up 29 top 40 hits, including six chart-toppers, between 1974 and 1991.
However, the duo went their separate ways in 2023 after a legal battle erupted when Oates attempted to sell the duo’s publishing rights. Although the pair has since settled their legal differences, they had yet to rekindle their creative partnership and have continued their careers as solo artists.
Oates hasn’t given up on the idea of recording a duet. He’s featured on “Never Change My Mind,” the new single by Nashville-based indie rock singer-songwriter JT Loux that not only features Oates’ vocals but was co-written by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
“Meeting John Oates was surreal, but actually getting to write a song with him was beyond anything I could’ve imagined. The track we created together means so much to me. I’ll never forget that experience,” Loux, pronounced “lucks,” said in a statement.
“I had a blast working with JT and his band in the studio…when it’s fun it usually translates to the music….I love this tune we did together,” Oates added.
Earlier in the week, Loux posted to Instagram a video of the pair hyping up the single with a video of them goofing off in the studio that was also shared to Oates’ official account.
He also posted the single’s cover art along with a caption announcing the song’s official release. “Never Change My Mind” with @johnoatesofficial is officially out everywhere!! so happy that this collab came together the way it did! i figured i’d show you guys the process of the hand drawn cover art! by @ryanleoadelman,” the caption reads.
JT Loux is signed to Slumerican Records, a label run by artist Yelawolf. The rapper will be featured on another track that will be included on Loux’s sophomore album, set for an April 2026 release.
Oates, meanwhile, released an album simply titled Oates earlier this year. It features the singer-songwriter dueting with soul singer Devon Gilfillian as well as the New York City-based soul pop band Lawrence.
Hall, meanwhile, is wrapping up a string of tour dates featuring special guest Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze. The tour hits Napa, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 24 with stops in Las Vegas, and the Southern California cities Inglewood, Temecula and Indio, before wrapping up on Nov. 4 in Denver.
Singer-guitarist JT Loux, and his band that includes drummer Zach McCoy and bassist Ethan Pecha, hit the road with their own tour dates beginning Nov. 7 in Corpus Christi, Texas and running through Nov. 23 in Chicago.
