Jude Law is sharing his thoughts on the future of late-night talk shows following Jimmy Kimmel Live! being suspended indefinitely.
The decision has sent shockwaves through the talk show industry, especially as late-night hosts come under fire from the current administration. Law was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the first night following the controversy surrounding Jimmy Kimmel.
Jude Law Shares Hope For Late Night Talk Shows
The actor was there to promote his new Netflix series, Black Rabbit. Before Jimmy Fallon got to that, though, he had another subject he wanted to address with Law.
It turns out the internet has been buzzing about how Law’s acting choices have predicted the future.
Fallon shared three different headlines to prove his point. “How the Movie ‘Contagion’ Accurately Predicted The 2020 Coronavirus,” “Jude Law Movie ‘AI Artificial Intelligence’ Made a Dark Prediction That’s Now Coming True,” and “How Jude Law’s ‘The Young Pope’ Predicted The First American Pope,” were the headlines Fallon showed.
The late-night host and the audience laughed, but then Law got real for a moment.
“If there’s any truth in that, I hope I predict that you’re on the air tomorrow night, the night after that, and all the other good people that present these TV shows,” he expressed. Fallon responded, “I hope.”
Neither Fallon nor Law addressed what was happening with Kimmel during their chat, but Fallon did speak about it during his Tonight Show monologue.
Law’s prediction comes after his Black Rabbit co-star Jason Bateman also made a bold prediction after his friend Kimmel’s show was pulled.
More Late Night Hosts Speak Out on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Suspension
Thursday night was a busy one for the late-night hosts returning to air without Kimmel. Unlike the ladies of The View, who did not address the suspension on Thursday’s episode, many other hosts spoke out.
Jon Stewart was in the host seat on The Daily Show, where he kicked things off with a skit making fun of the new late-night rules. The host later got more serious to point out, “Our great administration has laid out very clear rules on free speech.”
Stephen Colbert fiercely defended Kimmel during his monologue on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, calling what was happening with Kimmel “blatant censorship.”
Meanwhile, in his monologue on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Seth Meyers called Kimmel a friend before saying, “We must all stand up for the principles of free expression.”
