Keith Urban has been accused of making a “soul-sucking” jab at estranged wife Nicole Kidman during a performance after she filed for divorce.
Keith and Nicole announced their separation in September, citing “irreconcilable differences.” It was reported that the 58-year-old did not want them to split, but she has filed for divorce and for primary custody of their shared children.
Since the news of their split was revealed, Keith has been rumored to be dating his guitarist, Maggie Baugh, who is 32 years his junior. However, Nicole is not reportedly seeing anyone new.
Despite talk of the pair’s split having died down, Keith’s fans couldn’t help but notice his supposed subtle jab at the Oscar-winning actress.
Performing at the premiere of his new reality show, The Road, Keith chose to sing a song that hints at a “soul-sucking” aspect of his life.
Keith’s new reality show, The Road, will see contestants battle it out to earn a supporting slot on his new tour, and can be watched on CBS and Paramount+.
It was filmed months before Nicole and Keith’s split was announced and will feature Blake Shelton.
However, despite his performance, Keith avoided The Road’s premiere party, allegedly for privacy reasons.
“He’s annoyed to have missed this, but part of him is embarrassed to show his face on a red carpet until things settle down with his divorce,” a source told Women’s Day on October 16. “The last thing he needs is to overshadow his new show with all his personal issues.”
The insider also explained that The Fighter singer knows he’s “being painted as the bad guy” and that he doesn’t want his split to be the focus of The Road – he owes that to the contestants and crew.”
