Kelly Clarkson is sharing that it was an “easy decision as a mama” to end her talk show to spend more time with her two kids.
On Friday, Feb. 20, the singer, 43, appeared on Today and explained why she decided to end her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, after seven seasons. During her appearance, Clarkson shared that part of the reason she decided to end the show was to spend more time with her two kids — River, 11, and Remy, 9.
“Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now,” Clarkson, whose ex-husband and father of her kids, Brandon Blackstock, died in August at 48. “We’ve all got kids, right? And it’s one of those things when you kind of start seeing life is how precious it is.”

The “Since U Been Gone” singer went on to explain her decision, saying that there was just “too much on the plate.”
“I know everybody thinks, ‘Oh, she’s quitting,’ but I still have other jobs. There’s just too much on the plate,” Clarkson said. “It wasn’t [that] the show isn’t doing well. That’s what kind of sucked.”
“The crew’s been incredible…That was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a mama,” she added.
When Clarkson announced her departure from her talk show in February in a post on Instagram, the singer and mom of two shared that she was stepping away to “prioritize” her kids.
“I have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ both in Los Angeles and New York,” Clarkson wrote. “There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons. I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner.”
“This was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ ” she wrote. “Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.”
Blackstock’s family announced his death on Aug. 7, 2025. The talent manager was diagnosed with melanoma three years before his death.
This past January, Clarkson gave an update on her kids after she was asked what she does every day to bring her joy in a YouTube question-and-answer session released on the official Kelly Clarkson Show channel.
“Snuggle,” she responded. “My kids, they’re 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles.”
“There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit,” she continued.
“It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot,” she quipped. “It’s been really special, though, because… the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
