Bowling may be what first catches your eye, but when Lefty’s Alley & Eats opens its Newark location later this July, the kitchen is expected to become just as much of a draw as the lanes.
The 55,000-square-foot entertainment venue at The Grove combines luxury bowling, arcade games, golf simulators, axe throwing, live entertainment, and private event spaces with a chef-driven dining program designed to encourage guests to stay long after the games are over. Building on nearly a decade of success at its Lewes location, Lefty’s is bringing the same elevated approach to food and beverage that has become part of its identity.
“From day one, we’ve believed that our food should be just as memorable as the attractions,” said DJ Hill, founder of Lefty’s Alley & Eats. “Whether guests are joining us for a family dinner, a corporate event, happy hour with friends, or a full day of fun, we want the culinary experience to exceed expectations. When it comes to food, we don’t play games.”
Leading the culinary program is newly appointed Executive Chef Arnold Watts, a Tri-State native whose career has focused on restaurant operations, kitchen leadership, and creating memorable dining experiences through quality ingredients and consistent execution. Drawing inspiration from the food traditions of Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, Watts brings a regional perspective to the Newark kitchen while emphasizing hospitality, attention to detail, and innovative cuisine.
The menu offers a mix of familiar comfort food and creative twists designed for sharing or enjoying as a full meal. Guests can start with appetizers such as Philly Spring Rolls filled with shaved ribeye, caramelized onions, and melted cheeses, Lefty’s Signature Nachos topped with chicken tinga and house-made ingredients, Wagyu Sliders, Fried Mozzarella, or Alley Fries loaded with bacon, cheese sauce, brown gravy, and green onions.
For heartier fare, the menu includes favorites such as the Bacon Jam Burger, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, Land & Sea Alfredo, Teriyaki Stir Fry, Hawaiian Poke Bowls, and Mojo-Marinated Pork Tenderloin.
Pizza is also a centerpiece, with hand-tossed New York-style pies available alongside specialty selections including Margherita, White, Buffalo Chicken, and Hawaiian pizzas.
Dessert lovers can finish the experience with hand-spun milkshakes, nostalgic ice cream floats, and rotating house-made sweet treats.
The beverage menu continues the entertainment theme with handcrafted cocktails and several drinks inspired by the building’s history. The signature Big K Layaway pays tribute to the property’s former life as a Kmart, blending Smirnoff Red, White & Berry vodka, cream of coconut, lemon and lime, lemonade, and Sprite into a refreshing summer cocktail.
That nostalgic connection extends to recurring Blue Light Specials, promotions that reference the iconic blue-light savings events once associated with the former retailer while encouraging guests to explore the venue’s food, drinks, attractions, and special events.
Additional signature cocktails include the Lefty Loopy, Paper Plane, Spa Day, Pineapple Pelon, and Napa Old Fashioned. Guests will also find fresh-squeezed Crushes, regional craft beers, premium spirits, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages.
With entertainment, dining, and community-inspired touches all under one roof, Lefty’s Alley & Eats is positioning its Newark location as more than a place to bowl. The venue aims to become a gathering place where families, friends, coworkers, and visitors can enjoy chef-inspired meals alongside an afternoon or evening of entertainment.
