Louisiana child will be featured in new PBS Kids show | Entertainment/Life

It’s official — 10-year-old Jacob of Breaux Bridge is awesome.

The child, whose last name PBS isn’t releasing, will be featured in PBS Kids’ new interstitial series “America’s Awesome Kids.” He was selected in a nationwide search.

In recognition of America’s approaching 250th anniversary, the live-action short-form series debuted Friday, and airs within PBS Kids’ regular programming as well as children’s programming on PBS. The Louisiana segment is scheduled to premiere during “Alma’s Way” at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, and June 24 on YouTube. The entire 25-installment series will be streamable on the PBS Kids video app, pbskids.org and the “America’s Awesome Kids” YouTube channel.

“Jacob impressed producers with his diverse interests, including trail riding and football, as well as his leadership skills, which included developing an anti-bullying campaign for his school,” a PBS news release states. “From taking care of llamas in Iowa to Bollywood dancing in Georgia to exploring Cajun culture in Louisiana, the series celebrates the unique spirit of the next generation. Episodes highlight what makes local communities special and how kids are making a positive impact on the world around them.”

“Awesome Kids” is produced by GBH Kids station in Boston in coordination with 23 partnering PBS stations across the country, including Louisiana Public Broadcasting. 

Now casting

Just when you thought all reality TV ideas had been exhausted, here’s another one. The working title is “Age of Attraction,” and the casting company is looking for prospects in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.

“If you don’t look, feel or act your age — and prefer to date people who are older or younger than you, we want to meet you!,” the call-out explains.

Cast hopefuls must be available for the entire period from Oct. 3 to Nov. 6; however, those dates are subject to change.

Here are some of the other requirements:

• You are or will be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

• You have or will have the right to legally reside in the United States during production, if selected.

• Submission of an application form and compliance herein does not in any way constitute an offer to appear on the series. The producer VelvetHM, LLC may or may not invite you to attend an interview at their discretion.

• You will need to be available during the production dates (which dates shall be determined by the producer in its sole discretion) and be willing to travel to various locations as part of production.

• If you are selected as a potential participant, you must execute waivers and release agreements required by the producer or any of their licensees, successors or assigns.

• Any offer to become a participant may be conditioned upon your submission to a background check, in accordance with applicable laws.

Plans for ‘A Capitol Fourth’

Louisiana will have at least one representative on stage when PBS’ “A Capitol Fourth: 250th Weekend Celebration” airs at 7 p.m. Friday, July 3.

Country music icon and Sarepta native Trace Adkins will debut his new song, “American Made,” during the 90-minute live broadcast and streaming event from the Capitol’s west lawn.

“I have been fortunate enough to have played a small part in several of the ‘A Capitol Fourth’ celebrations over my career,” Adkins says in a news release. “But to be invited to join the 250th birthday of our great country is an honor beyond all others.”

Adkins marks 30 years in the music industry this year. 

The special will also feature a fireworks show from George Washington’s Mount Vernon. The fireworks will be the largest display ever at the iconic home of America’s first president.
