Filmmaker Martin Scorsese has had a career spanning nearly six decades, and during that time, he’s been nominated for 10 directing Oscars and won in 2007 for The Departed. Despite what many would consider a hugely successful career, there were darker periods in Scorsese’s life, some of which come to the forefront in the new five-part documentary series Mr. Scorsese.
In the documentary, Scorsese details how his 1980 film Raging Bullhelped him overcome one of those dark times. Following the less-than-stellar critical and audience reception for his 1977 film New York, New York, Scorsese went on a drug binge with musician Robbie Robertson, according to Entertainment Weekly.
