Meghan Markle has been condemned for a significant “cash grab” move amid allegations that she is “obsessed” with the Royal Family. The 44-year-old officially joined the Firm in 2018 following her marriage to Prince Harry in a lavish royal wedding, with the couple announcing less than two years later that they were stepping back from royal duties.
The former working royal has since drawn criticism for leveraging her aristocratic titles and branding tied to the monarchy. Sky News presenter Samara Gill recently alleged that the former Suits actress was fixated on utilizing her royal title and was capitalizing on her connection to the Royal Family for personal gain.
Ms Gill blasted, “I think she does want the validation, but she also wants to continue to coast off the royal titles, and I think that’s been one of the most damning and heartbreaking things for the royal family to have to witness – her secretly using some of the titles in letter headings, and then them finding out about it.”
She added, “She’s obsessed with the Royal Family, and she’s obsessed…with the cash grab that she can make off it,” reports the Express.
As reported by RadarOnline, one royal insider has claimed that frustration is mounting within palace walls over Meghan’s use of titles and her ongoing association with the Firm. The source said, “There’s a belief among some people connected to the monarchy that Meghan wants all the glamour, symbolism and commercial power that comes with royal status without accepting the restrictions, obligations and scrutiny attached to royal duty itself.
“Critics think she continues using the royal connection because she understands it remains the foundation of her global celebrity and business value.”
Also speaking to Sky News, Ms. Gill addressed Meghan’s previous remark that she is “a Sussex now” when referred to as Meghan Markle on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
She said, “Now, the infamous turn of phrase that she uttered to Mindy Kaling – (on Markle’s Netflix show, in which she said her surname was now ‘Sussex’) – and then sort of was quite strong about everyone calling her Megan Sussex, which never quite took off.”
Meghan currently lives in California alongside Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, who will celebrate her fifth birthday next month.
