Meghan Markle has been called out for a supposed “ultimate display of hypocrisy” after she posted an image of her daughter on social media.
On May 16, the Duchess of Sussex posted a mirror selfie of herself in what appears to be a dressing room, while stilettos are laid out in front of her, and a Giorgio Armani blazer is hung up to her side. As Meghan posed for the selfie, her daughter, Liliet, 4, who was named after the late Queen Elizabeth II, hugged her legs. Lilibet’s face can’t be seen in the image.
However, Meghan has since received backlash for the Instagram post, which she captioned, “Mama’s little helper,” with a purple heart emoji.
On X, a self-appointed royal news network wrote, “Meghan Markle posting her child and making her a focus of social media, as she prepares to travel to Geneva to highlight the dangers of online harm to children. The ultimate display of hypocrisy. You can’t make this up.”
Many people agreed with the poster’s thoughts, as one person wrote, “So she puts her child online before she goes to a conference about the dangers of putting your child online, so she can speak against putting your child online while she puts her child online. Got it.”
Another then penned, “And this pic is ridiculous. Is her child putting on her shoes for her? Cleaning her shoes for her?” Meanwhile, a third said, “Flying to Geneva to lecture the world about online harm to children while actively feeding the same publicity machine she claims to fear is breathtakingly contradictory.”
Others noted that numerous expensive clothing items are on display in the photo, something users have called “tone deaf.”
“Tone deaf grifter on her way to the WHO for discussions about the less fortunate, all the while surrounded by designer clothes she will soon merch,” fumed a social media user.
However, some people came to Meghan’s defense, pointing out that she never shows her children’s faces in photos, presumably to protect them and their identities.
“Do you know what her daughter looks like? NO YOU DON’T,” raged a fan, “So whatever she’s doing is working, that’s more than can be said for absolutely disturbing stalking attention-seeking, grifting trolls like yourself, what a sad, miserable existence you’ve created for yourself.”
