Meghan Markle shocked fans when it was announced she’s making a return to acting, but one PR expert has issued a warning about the career move.
The Duchess of Sussex retired from her acting career eight years ago, but has now joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends.
Meghan will be playing herself in the movie and has been spotted on set in Pasadena, California. While fans are excited about her acting return, PR expert Ryan McCormick has warned Meghan her appearance could cause a “reputational crisis.”
Speaking exclusively to The Express US, the expert explained, “What could cause this engagement to become a reputational crisis is if her acting dramatically pales in comparison to her featured co-stars to the point where it appears they are in two different films.”
However, he suggested a “brief but memorable role” could work well for the former Suits actress.
McCormick told us, “A brief but memorable role could be very positive for Meghan Markle, especially if the film is critically acclaimed.
“October 2025 was the lowest US box office performance in 27 years, so it seems that things can only get better. This timing actually works in Markle’s favor — studios are experimenting more with casting, and audiences are hungry for fresh narratives.”
The PR expert concluded, “By having a brief appearance, the pressure of delivering success is alleviated on Markle. She has a very strong hand.”
Meghan will play herself in Close Personal Friends, joining a cast that includes stars such as Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Brit Henry and Jack Quaid.
Close Personal Friends will tell the story of a couple who befriend a famous couple during a trip to Santa Barbara.
The Duchess of Sussex, who shot to fame thanks to her role as Rachel Zane on the hit legal drama Suits, was photographed on set on November 5. A source has opened up about what Meghan was like to work with on the movie.
“She introduced herself as ‘Meghan.’ Everything about her was very sweet and calm,” the source told People Magazine.
They continued, “She genuinely seemed excited to be on set. She was joking that she felt a bit rusty, but it was obvious that she had rehearsed and that it was a big deal for her to be back. And she was great.”
The source also said Meghan had a “warm energy” and was “super pleasant to be around.”
