Meghan Markle has been stepping on eggshells when it comes to the Royal Family for years, and it’s not hard to see why. With the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview paired with the Netflix series Harry & Meghan, they hadn’t set themselves up well for a strong relationship with the royals. However, it’s been reported that she and Harry are looking to repair their relationship with their estranged family back here in the UK, but it’ll take a long to bring that all the way back.
But she was really pushing her luck when speculation about her releasing her memoirs started to circulate, after Prince Harry released his tell-all book Spare, things were really getting bleak, Meghan adding fuel to the fire would have just been nothing short of chaotic. Between the horror Netflix doc and their glitzying partying in Hollywood with Kris Jenner and co, they weren’t acting like the royals they think they should be. The fact that she’s made a U-turn on that decision proves one thing and one thing only: She has more respect for the family than Harry does.
I’m not surprised that Meghan wanted to release her memoirs, considering how well Harry’s did, but at what cost? Sure, they had lots of offers on the table, but was it really worth damaging their relationship with the Royal Family further? Sometimes, when things fall to the back of the shelf (like Harry’s book), it’s easier to get over it. Meghan releasing her own version of events would not go down well at all. Everything she said in both the Oprah chat and the Netflix doc was bombshell after bombshell and it didn’t go down well with the royals, so this would have been ten times worse.
And it comes as they’re apparently “cautious” about what they say and do to uphold the monarchy’s standards. A source has said that it’s these kind of projects that they’re no longer interested in. My take? About time! It’s like they’ve finally realised that their life should be dedicated to the royals and that they are actually incredibly lucky to be in the position that they’re in, they shouldn’t be slandering it with every passing second. Honestly, the things that were coming out should have been kept to the fictional remakes like The Crown, not the horse’s mouth! The release of Harry’s book generated incredible amounts of controversy for the royals, especially regarding his relationship with Prince William, before Harry detailed the account of losing his virginity to an older woman in a field.
The rift Harry and Meghan caused after their speedy exit to the US was no joke, and the moves they continued to make when they moved over there was seriously starting to signify that there was never going to be a way back for them. They hung the royals out to dry and then sunbathed underneath the line, with not a care in the world. Suddenly, they have a care again. Who knows the reason behind it, who knows what is going on in their calculated brains at home, but at least it’s led them to the decision to pull this ridiculous book idea.
If Meghan had published a tell-all book about finding love with Harry, it wouldn’t have been the fairytale that she thought she’d be writing; it would have been a scandalous account that utterly ripped apart any shred of dignity they had left and any opportunity to reunite with the family. Instead, they’re making more moves to return to the Royal Fold, and if an apology is in tow, their return could even be welcome.
