STEVENS POINT − Jazz Coterie is bringing Los Angeles-based singer and composer Michael Mayo to Wisconsin for a concert in Stevens Point.
Mayo, known for his blend of jazz, neo-soul and R&B, will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Great Northern Distilling, 1011 Second St., according to an announcement.

Mayo, who was voted the No. 1 Rising Star Male Vocalist by the 2025 DownBeat International Critics Poll, has performed with artists such as Kneebody, Jacob Collier, Christian Sands, Josh Groban, Nate Smith and Herbie Hancock.
Michael Mayo, a DownBeat Rising Star, brings his jazz and R&B fusion to perform in Stevens Point.
He released his debut studio album, “Bones,” in 2021, followed by his sophomore album, “Fly,” in 2024 on Mack Avenue Records.
Mayo was born and raised in Los Angeles by his father, Scott Mayo, a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, and his mother, Valerie Pinkston, a singer. His parents performed with musicians such as Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston.
He received a bachelor’s degree in jazz vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. In 2015, he became the third vocalist ever to be accepted to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Dianne Reeves.
Jazz Coterie is a pop-up jazz concert series serving central, east central and northeast Wisconsin, featuring emerging and established musicians from around the world.
